Rewarding Client Partnerships

Sometimes the most meaningful professional opportunities begin with a simple conversation.

A group of dedicated ladies from Rotary shared a PowerPoint presentation in English from PERIOD. and asked whether I could translate it into Spanish for a community project focused on menstrual health education.  

That conversation introduced me to the PERIOD. team and its inspiring mission.

​

As I reviewed the presentation, I noticed that it was distributed under a Creative Commons license that permits translations and adaptations under certain conditions. Even so, I believed the best approach was to contact the organization directly. I wanted to ensure that any translation accurately reflected their mission, preserved the integrity of the content, and created an opportunity to establish a professional relationship based on collaboration and trust.

What followed became one of the most rewarding professional collaborations of my career.

During my introductory meeting with Nicky Dawkins, we discussed their mission, the importance of language access, and how I could contribute to making their educational resources accessible to Spanish-speaking communities. From that moment on, the collaboration with Nicky Dawkins, Jennifer Herrera, and Damaris Pereda flowed naturally. Throughout the project, I felt valued not only as a translator but as a professional whose work could help expand the reach of an organization dedicated to empowering girls and communities through education.

This experience reminded me that translation is about much more than converting words from one language to another. It is about building trust, preserving meaning, respecting intellectual property, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and helping organizations extend their impact across languages and communities.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Rotary members who first shared the presentation with me. Thank you for being the bridge that connected me with PERIOD.  and their wonderful team. Without that initial conversation, this collaboration might never have happened.

Meaningful work often begins with meaningful connections. I am grateful to everyone who played a part in making this collaboration possible, and I look forward to continuing to use language as a tool for education, inclusion, and positive social impact. I hope this is the first of many opportunities to support organizations that are creating lasting change through education, language access and community engagement.
